Hi Reddit, I don’t post too much but I’ll try to keep this short.
My neighbor’s kids can be a bit messy; they leave their things outside our apartment door since they’re across from us and we share the space. It’s not typically food or snacks so we’re not usually worried about the content.
My roommate was taking their small dog out for a walk on leash and when they opened the front door, the dog immediately ate part of a chocolate pretzel that had been left out on our doorstep by their kids. The chocolate was within 10 inches of our door. We rushed to the vet, they induced vomiting, the chocolate came up, and everything is ok now, but the bill is almost $400. We’re considering muzzling the dog/investing in training to prevent unwanted eating in the future, but my question is basically how do we bring this up to the neighbors? Are they potentially liable for the cost? Our community has cleanliness rules but mistakes do happen. I’m not sure how to proceed.
Thank you for reading.
