Cat only wants to eat out of my hand

I’m watching my aunts cat for a week and I’ve previously taken care of him in 2019 for a month with no issues. He would eat out of his bowl without any problems. I also have my own car so I’m not inexperienced.

More recently, my aunt did say that he’s developed a habit of eating when he’s hand fed. I knew this before I agreed to watching him because they said he only demands it once or twice a day, and they said he sleeps peacefully at night.

It’s been two days since I’ve been here and he’s been crying at 3am because he refuses to eat out of his bowl. If I ignore him, the meows get louder and scarier and he will literally keep going no matter how many minutes have passed. He’s perfectly healthy as he did have a vet check recently. But this has to stop because I’m losing my mind - he simply refuses to eat if I don’t sit on the floor with food in my hand for him. Any tips? :(
