My adult foster cat (M4, neutered) pees himself when too playful - anyone with a similar experience?

We have a very playful and adorable foster boy who sometimes pees himself when he is too caught up in playing. We have only seen it happen on soft surfaces (bed, couch pillows). He has been with us for 5 weeks and it has happened about 4-5 times, all of which resulted from him playing extremely excitedly. He doesn't stop to pee, he just starts spraying and pulls a Jackson Pollock.

He is from an indoor colony and ended up at the vet's because he couldn't pee - sand and mucus had formed a blockage in his urethra. He had been on a horrible diet (porridge and cheap kibble) his whole life and the stress from being taken to the clinic to get neutered a week before probably didn't help also. After the second clinic visit he came to us and had some trouble using the litter box for the first few days, but we resolved it with lowering his stress, introducing more litter boxes, etc., so now he uses them correctly. Only exception was when I tried to introduce a cover for one of his litter boxes and he decided he might as well pee next to it then. We feed him quality wet food, often special urinary ones, and sometimes raw, as that was the only thing he was willing to eat in the beginning. He refuses to eat kibble.

As he usually pees normally, the vet doesn't suspect a bladder problem, but rather that his brain goes into some kind of an error when he is too immersed in playing, resulting in the sphincter muscle relaxing too much. He really likes playing and often goes crazy with his toys, but we are learning how to avoid the triggers (no playing on the bed, can't leave him alone with some specific toys, etc.), I am just interested if anyone has a similar experience? I know of puppies peeing themselves from excitement, but never really heard of cats doing it. Does it go away with time? Any suggestions about what we can do to make it happen less?

TL;DR: Cat plays too excitedly and pulls a pee Jackson Pollock on soft surfaces.
