So I have a a 3yo F Domestic Shorthair Cat, and a 1y4mo Chocolate Lab/Chesapeake Bay Retriever pup. Let me start by saying, we LOVE our vet. She’s young, not judgy, and all about working with us to do what’s best for our fur babies. We found them by chance (after moving from out of state), and haven’t gone elsewhere.
So, the office we go to “strongly recommends” (or expects) that every single pet (any species, any age) has a wellness exam every 6 months.
Now let me just say, my pets are always up to date on their vaccines, always have checkups, and we never hesitate to bring them in if we think there’s a bigger issue. So with that being said, I feel like wellness exams every 6 months is overkill.
I understand it more once the pets reach 6/7/8 years old. OR if they have an ongoing issue that should be closely monitored. But generally speaking, why? I don’t go to the doctor every 6 months- just my annual exam and if needed otherwise. I understand that animals age faster than humans, but still.
So I would love to hear some other thoughts and opinions on this topic!
