I have a 9 year old cat, she will be 10 this year. No pre-existing health conditions, everything great last vet check on Jan 28 of this year. She does need a teeth cleaning that is estimated to cost around $1100-1200 because of the sedation. So I don't mind paying extra for wellness if teeth cleaning is covered with that.
My fear is that my cat is now middle-aged, and if she ends up needing bloodwork, gets arthritis, needs surgery, or the big C, I want to have funds aside to pay for reasonable health care so long as it wouldn't prolong her suffering. Right now the challenge for me is to sift through providers. I've heard Embrace is good, and I cannot tell if top ten lists I see are advertisements from the insurance carriers themselves or consumers.
In my area, the annual exam with shots and having her claws trimmed ran me around $400.
