When getting a cat, are bengal cats the only option for someone with allergies?

Not me, but my dad is allergic to cats. He was allergic to our dogs as well, but he became immune to them after a few months. My grandpa (moms dad) owned a vet clinic, and my mom had her own cat growing up, so she's definitely experienced with cats. She's always wanted to get another cat, but I don't think she seriously considered it until I asked if I could get one 6 months ago. At first she said no, but now she's saying I can get a bengal cat because they cause much less of a reaction than most cats.

At first I was excited, but now I'm worried it may not be the right option. I'd have to buy one from a breeder, which is very expensive and I'd rather rescue a cat, they are high energy, and require special care and special diets. This may be ok to deal with while I'm living with my mom, but once I move out in a few years I'm gonna be on my own with this very expensive and high maintenance cat.

All of this to say, I'm not a sure if a Bengal cat is the right option for me. Are there other options? Should I just stick it out for a few years until I'm on my own and adopt my own cat?
