So today I learned a lot of people say letting your cat outside is never recommended. The reasons stated are usually that it could get diseases, kill other animals or even die. I understand very well what they want to say, but what is enforced is never letting your cat even step on fresh grass or run around. The good solution would be a catio but a lot of people don't have the space or funds for that. At the same time dogs who are different animals but still do have some things similar to cats are always let outdoors and don't even have things like litter boxes. I'ts common sense that dogs need their time outside but they can still contract illnesses and be hit by cars.
Something I've noticed is that a dogs dependence on us is way higher that a cats. Stray dogs don't know well how to live on the streets and quickly end up in terrible conditions, like skin diseases, malnutrition etc. But rescue cats are very often, even if sick, not as terrifying as some dogs cases I've seen. So I want to know where this comes from and why people don't say this about dogs. Leashes on cats is a concept most people are only warming up to now and most cat owners let their cats roam free.
Just to clarify: I love cats, hell I love animals, but have only owned one cat for one year of my life. He was a stray I adopted but had to give away for circumstantial reasons. So even if I research, don't expect a high level of knowledge of me.
