My cat has been missing for 3.5 months: how do I let go?

Pretty much what the title says. I unapologetically have been hit really hard by this. When my partner and I first moved in together, we fostered cats. We fostered him from 6 months old. As soon as they let him out of the carrier at six months he knew he was home. He loved us so much. We ended up adopting him and moving countries with him. He was four when he went missing.

We did everything. Went out in the middle of the night to call for him, left items of our clothes out, sprinkled his litter, put up posters and posted flyers in people’s doors, called local vets, posted on socials. We put up with prank calls from teenagers, investigated every claim they’d seen a cat similar to him. Nothing. He’s just vanished.

So, how do I get over this? My partner has been dealing with this in a much healthier way than me. I hate to even talk about him with anyone and can’t look at pictures of him without crying. For a while, I was staying longer at work because it hurt going home knowing he wasn’t going to be there.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!
