So to start. My SO and I have always worked “off” schedules. I primarily work days, SO has traditionally worked second shift (3p-11p).
We have a 15 yo boi stinky cat. He’s wonderful (mostly!), but he’s old and set in his ways. W, our cat, takes 4 feedings a day of wet food. He had most teeth removed so dry food is really not an option for us. We chose this for his happiness and health. Our old feeding schedule was 8a, 11a, 5p, 10p. All was good in W-land.
Recently my SO took a promotion that moved them to third shift. This was 4!!! months ago. We have slowly tried to adjust W to this new schedule, where he gets fed the exact same amount of food, but at different times. Think: 1a, 7a, 4p, 8p. So yes, some gaps are slightly bigger. But some smaller.
W has been MISERABLE on this adjusted schedule. My SO gets home early in the am and tries to sleep until 4 pm. We live in a historic home that does not have hallways. So all rooms are connected. We cannot lock him out of our bedroom. When SO gets home, W climbs into our bed and just claws at them. Non. Stop. When I get home, he is on me like he hasn’t been fed in a week. Howling and crying.
What can we do? How can we keep the peace in our household? Because my SO has no sleep, my W plays starvation 24/7 and I’m slowly losing my mind.
Final notes: W is fixed. He’s indoor only. He has all sets of claws. We will never get rid of him.
BUT I NEED PEACE IN MY HOME. HELP!
