About two weeks ago my fiancee and I adopted a 8 week old kitten from a good friend whose cat had given birth to a litter of 5. I grew up on a farm and have only ever had outdoor barn cats that take care of themselves. Ive never raised an indoor kitten before and I'd love some advice.
The kitten (named Hades) is in great health and has had his first round of shots. We have a ~3 year old irish terrier/golden retriever mix and they are getting along great.
The first thing I wanted to ask about was suckling. The kitten will often start to suckle on any soft fabric (jackets, sweaters, blankets etc) and will suckle for sometimes 10-15 straight. If I pry him off of me he will keep coming back again and again. Is there anything I can do to curb this behavior? It's getting old having to pry him off of anyone who comes over wearing anything soft.
I am also stumped on how to teach him not to chew/attack certain things. I tried aluminum foil but he started playing with it. No fear of water either; a spray bottle is just met with a cold stare. I've given him tons of toys to play with but he still goes after all the cords in the house and the curtains.
He is an adorable demon and I love him but he is a handful. I trained our dog no problem but cats are something different all together. Any tips or advice you could share are welcome. I'm just some fool trying to not get outsmarted by 3 pounds of fuzz.
