Quick Disclaimer: I'm well aware that I am not an angel in this story, or anything close.
My boyfriend has two cats. One is a 10 y/o male who he had long before the relationship started. The second is a 2 y/o female who lived with a family member but moved in with him about a month and a half into our being together. For the first few months of him having her she and I got along great, she would go up to be and cuddle all the time and she usually slept on my chest at night (he and I don't live together but I spend a lot of time over at his place). At some point I noticed that she was actively avoiding me, which we decided was because I wouldn't leave her alone. Over time this built up to her scratching me whenever I picked her up, but nothing too bad (relatively speaking).
One day I picked her up and she ATTACKED my hand. I freaked out and my reaction was to reflexively throw her (kinda like hot potato). Im a big person and I threw her a lot harder than I thought I had and she hit the wall pretty hard (I accidentally broke a plastic light bulb that hangs on the wall).
After that she started getting progressively more scared of me. I don't remember any specific dates but at a point she pooped under the bed because she was scared to come out from underneath. She has peed herself just from seeing me walk by multiple times. Tonight I looked at her and waved and she ran across the table leaving a huge trail of pee.
A few things that are probably/possibly important to note:
She had a history of abuse from her previous owner. She almost died because the owner refused to feed her.
I'm no longer allowed to touch her and for the most part I'm good on that rule.
I'm really just looking for how to deal with this situation. I've tried so many different things like not making eye contact and being the only one allowed to feed her. Is there anything I should try?
