Quick backstory about my cat, she is a 2.5 year old calico. Ever since she was a kitten she would not ever leave my side. She would cry when I put her down and she slept in bed under the blankets with me and my bf. she is also very needy and we think she gets anxiety when left alone. Whenever we leave the house she screams at the door, and when we come home she is sitting at the window waiting for us.
I wanted to get a second cat so she could have a friend, but she fought with our other cats whenever they would get attention and she HATES when we used to pet and play with our other cat (she passed away earlier this year) she got into a huge fight with our other cat when she was alive because she was sleeping in the bed.
Well, I love and protect my cat and never let her outside and I never let anyone come inside or be alone with my cat that I do not trust (I have a fear of someone accidentally/purposely hurting any of my pets) but we let family members come over and she used to just come up and greet them and be her cuddly snuggly cute self.
But We moved into this new apartment last year and ever since we’ve been here, whenever anyone (except me and my bf) comes inside the apartment she runs and hides until they leave.
And recently if I move around too fast she will run away (mostly on cleaning day, which I understand that) but I’ll vacuum in the morning, and even late at night she’s still really scared and skittish of everything I do. :(
It started once we moved into this building (we live in the same complex just different building, so the apartment layout is basically the same) but I’m wondering if anyone has had this problem before and knows how to help?
I feel really bad that my cat has to go into hiding in her own home. And I’m wondering if I’m doing anything wrong because she hasn’t always been this way.
