So last summer my neighbors bought one German shepherd. My mom decided she should talk with the neighbor lady and meet the dog so maybe it wouldn't bark and growl at us every time we're in our yard. The dog ended up biting my mom on the wrist. My mom is a nurse so she was worried she might get some type of infection from the dog bite and went to our local urgent care center to get some antibiotics. It turns out the center is REQUIRED to report all dog bites to the police. (The police in my city have a bad reputation for being dicks and my mom did not want them involved in the first place.) After my mom got home, she thought it would be a good idea to warn the neighbor that the police would be coming to talk with them about the bite. The woman was pissed and said, "I'm college educated, that was not a bite. I see what type of neighbor you are." The rest of the conversation didn't go so well...
Fast forward to this summer, as if one dog didn't cause enough drama, they bought a SECOND German shepherd. (I live in a neighborhood with cookie-cutter single family homes. It doesn't make sense for two large dogs to be living in a house/neighborhood like this. There are lots of toddlers living in this neighborhood also.) This summer they finally told us they were putting up a fence. I was picturing a picket fence they wouldn't be able to see through but they ended up just getting a 5 foot tall CHAIN-LINK fence so the beasts can still see us. These dogs bark and growl EVERY SINGLE TIME I go into my backyard or even just slide open the back door. I am afraid they are going to jump the fence one of these days. (Is that even possible at that height?) It makes me want to carry pepper spray out back (although I haven't yet.) When they are outside it is very hard to relax and I'm constantly on edge. They even bark and jump at their front window when they are inside their house and they see us outside in the front yard. I can hear them barking in my BASEMENT bedroom and even in my bathroom in the middle of the basement when they are outside. A relative of ours told us an ultrasonic bark control device would be a good idea. Does anyone know of a good one that works? Does anyone have any other ideas to fix this problem? These neighbors are assholes and they aren't doing enough to fix this as we've mentioned it to them a few times. Thanks!
