I hope this is allowed. It’s just a warning for those with elderly pet insurance.
Sadly my old lady cat of 17 passed recently. I went to claim for her treatment prior to her passing, for the last 6 years she has had the same insurance cover with Pet Plan of £3000 for vets bills. When I got her renewal letter in Jan I stupidly didn’t check the policy. Also as it had gone up £5 a month I stupidly didn’t think her cover would have been affected to any great degree.
But when I checked the new policy I found she wasn’t covered at all for any vets bills. Her policy stated that due to her age I chose to cover all vet costs. Her cover now only provide her for boarding, repatriation and quarantine bills etc. All things which are pretty unlikely to be needed for an elderly cat.
Nowhere in the cover letter did it say the policy had changed and I have never spoken to them about this or been contacted by them about me choosing to cover her costs. Even the full small print letter says she is covered for vet bills. But I’ve spoken on the phone to Pet Plan and they said I had agreed to cover bills as that is standard for a 17year old cat.
Obviously this ultimately falls on me not checking the policy renewal in Jan. But I just feel it’s worth warning others, incase others like myself don’t fully check and are paying out for insurance which is essentially useless.
