Getting ready for our first dog

So me and my Fiance are getting our first dog in the next couple days and we think we're ready for the responsibility and we want to make sure we have a happy, healthy, and importantly, trained dog. We have goals in mind to care for her and train her and i just want to lay out our plans and see if y'all can contribute and offer any advice.

So we adopted her through a organization called Lifeline and she is already fixed, been micro-chipped, has had her vaccines, and has been given heart-worm medication. She has had a little bit of a cough from being in the kennel for a while but shes on antibiotics. She is also just under a year old and I have no idea what combination of breeds she is.

Our plan is to take her to a place after a day or two of being at our house and get her cleaned and groomed and to let her pick out a few toys and get a proper name tag for her. Then once we have all the stuff for home we enroll her in the training program. We want to get her trained not to jump or bite to much cause she is a little bit of a playful nibbler. But we understand she's still young and i just having fun, but we have young children and elderly visit us a lot and we want to make it easy on them.

Sorry for the long-ish post, but we're just excited and nervous cause she will be our first dog that's ours and we just want to be good and responsible pet owners. So if I could get a little reassurance or some helpful tips it would be super appreciated!
