Hi I have a situation and I would much much much rather avoid going to the vet for a physical exam, and potentially xrays, potentially diabetes screenings once again— that result in nothing but a dent in my bank account and angry bosses when it comes to taking time off. If you are just going to bash me for not wanting to take my cat, I have spent a lot of money on the smallest things and they always end up being nothing.
My cat recently had his first accident and on my roommate’s bed. My cat is 2 years old and neutered and has never sprayed or ever had issues with his litter box no matter where it’s been placed or how it’s been placed. It’s cleaned every 1-2 days. He will hold it in if he has no access to a litter box, always. I’ve had him since he was about 6 weeks and he taught himself to use a litter box. We’ve moved around 3-4 times since I’ve had him, one being he occasionally visits my parents for certain periods or when I am traveling. He never had issues there either. No other symptoms of any health problems other than this one accident. The current living situation I have been in is a 2bd 1 bath apartment and his litter box has always been in the same place for the past 8 months. It’s in the corner of the living room, far from his food and cat tree. His diet contains WET FOOD only, Wureva canned food + Primal Raw Freeze dry (I mix a lot of water, fear of UTI, because he only plays with water in his bowl, not drink it).
He has behavioral issues as he is young and hyper all the time. He gets played with almost every day. He just likes to get into things for fun and see our annoyed reactions. But never used urinating or pooping or vomiting as a weapon/nor for a reaction.
On this particular situation there are numerous factors as to what I think is the cause but please do make your own theories as well.
-I recently traveled, 12 days gone and he stayed at my parents place. We’ve been back at this apartment for 3 days now. He seemed to be using the toilet normally. At my parents, they set up a second litter box in the bathroom in comparison to the one he normally uses at their house, and he was able to do both with no issues. Could it be that he is making a new second toilet? Because he always refused to pee anywhere else other than a place that has litter.
-On ANOTHER hand, I do have one particular situation I’m worried about. While I was gone on vacation and my cat was at my parent’s, one of my roommates (slept in different room from us) had brought over a cat without letting me know. This female cat roamed the living room and the owner of it put her litter box in the exact same spot as my cat’s litter box and used his litter mat. She also put her cat’s carrier and food bowls in that area. I don’t know if they used my pooper scooper or if they allowed her on my cat’s cat tree. She had only stepped in my bedroom 1 foot in and only stayed for 2 days. I was upset to know about this because my cat has signs of being territorial and he has not been socialized with any other animals except for a hamster. I could not find anything on the internet about this. Could it be that he is bothered by her scent? Because her litter box was in the same spot as where I put his and on top of the litter mat. He doesn’t even know who or what this cat looks like. I did not know about this until after the accident.
-I talked with an online “vet” for $5 because local vets just tell you to come in and spend $200. My cat also needs to be sedated for physical exams, he gets very angry when it comes to the vet. This online vet said he may have his anal sacs “full” and it is causing him pain to urinate or poop. But how do you get all that from one accident? There are so many potential factors. I don’t think he is stressed or mixing his scent with my roommate’s scent (bed in same room as mine) as there have been worse things (vet, parents house because new environment) he has had to dealt with and he’s never had an accident then. They also mentioned to give him cranberry juice if he is in pain.
Is it too soon to tell? Am I worrying too much? Will it happen again?
