Firstly, i can't decide where to post this. Idk what subreddit or forum website would have the answer. If you know of somewhere more applicable, please let me know.
I've been trying to decide whether I want a hamster, gerbils, or mice, and don't know if their protein/fat/fibre requirements are drastically different.
I was scrolling through a website called hamsterhideout, and I think if I got a Syrian or dwarf hamster I could feed it "Higgins VitaGarden hamster & gerbil food" for its main food, with "Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health mouse rat & hamster food" as a protein booster. Those are what I'm able to get where I live.
My main question is: if I was to feed the Higgins VitaGarden to my gerbil, do gerbils need extra protein too? And if so, the Kaytee one doesn't say it's safe for gerbils. Does anyone know of something that is?
And lastly, I'm curious about how mice compare to both hamsters and gerbils in terms of diet requirements. Would mixing a seed mix + protein booster be necessary for a group of mice as well?
