Hey y’all!
I recently (yesterday) acquired a kitten from a friend. I wasn’t particularly looking for or wanting one, but it was so cute and my friend was so desperate to save the kitten from our local kill shelter, so I obliged. It’s in between 2-3 months, and we’re still working on a name, but she’s a cutie!
She’s pretty quiet and chill during the day, but loud and rambunctious at night, lol. I have a 5 month old daughter who as of recently is sleeping through the night, and we’d like to continue this!
The kitten howls whenever it can’t see us, so keeping it out of our room (free range of rest of apt) is not an option as it sits and howls under the door. It’s too loud to keep in the room with us, so last night I shut it in our large guest bathroom, where it’s food water and litter is anyways. The bathroom connects to a walk in guest closet, which I leave open for her with a large comfy blanket for her to lay on. The whole space of the area is larger than some bedrooms I’ve had.
Is this fine, is it considered bad pet owner behavior? I’ve owned other pets before but none currently and no cats this young before. I’m not able to lose out on sleep especially for a cat as I work and am a full time student also. She goes into the bathroom at 11 pm or 12 and my boyfriend lets her out when he gets home around 8 am.
I’d hate to have to give this cat up as it would upset my friend and it’s very sweet otherwise, But its the only way I can get some rest is putting it up! Do y’all put your pets up? Is this a phase that will pass and I can put her up until then? I’d love to have her relaxed enough as an adult to cuddle with me in bed at sleeptime
Thanks for advice !
