I’m a college student living at home with shelter-in-place for a few (months? weeks? who knows). Sister and I have wanted to adopt a cat (or at least foster) for a long time, and mom was starting to come around to it just as the COVID-19 situation started. I’d seen multiple calls on FB for people to sign up to be foster families since pet shelters would be shortstaffed, but now mom is vehemently against it, primarily reasoning that “someone else with coronavirus could touch a cat and then we would bring the cat home and get infected.” I can understand where her concern is coming from, but 1) a pet could help loads with our cabin fever, 2) there’s a need for it at our local humane society, and 3) there does not seem to be any risk like the one she’s describing (pets can’t be carriers of coronavirus)
I guess I’d first want to know if her concern is rational (I’ll back off if it is), and if not, any tips on how to convince her otherwise?
