I have a feline friend of my own and live in a duplex, I have two roommates and my cat is very independent, he is usually not alone for more than 10 hours at a time. And that's on a bad day.
My neighbor recently acquired what is I assume a kitten. I know she has adequate equipment because I've seen her bring it in. Toys, litterbox, y'know cat essentials.
The problem is...she basically doesnt live here. Her car will appear for maybe 15 minutes during the day and then she is gone until the next day for 15 minutes. She doesnt sleep here more than one day a week, and she never stays very long when she comes home to take care of food/litter. Literally 15 minutes then she's gone.
This poor kitten is alone for about 23.5 hours of the day almost every day. When I walk in after work I can hear it meowing, when I do laundry downstairs I can hear it meowing, when I'm cooking in the kitchen I can hear it meowing. The lights are never on and I never hear any TV coming from her apartment, so the cat is left alone in the dark nearly every night Frankly, it breaks my heart. Why would someone get a pet and give it no companionship?
I may be overreacting because the little thing's meows tug on my heartstrings so badly that I want to steal it and love it...but I'm honestly just wondering if there is anything I can do to provide recourse? It may be dramatic, I'm aware cats are low-effort pets, but I cant stand the thought of it receiving no love and living a completely solitary life in a small apartment.
This may just be a vent post, but any advice would be appreciated. I cuddle my kitty extra hard every time I come home and hear the poor thing next door meowing for attention while I know it's been home alone all freaking day.
