OK, we have lived together for like 3 months, and i barely ever see this cat. Her favorite place is hiding in a cabinet (previously it was behind the washer and dryer, but she can't get back there anymore). She is afraid of literally everything. Very rarely I will wake up in the middle of the night and she is sleeping on the bed. Generally if I reach for her to pet her she bolts out of the room. This cat is a total ghost. I can go days without seeing it. Apparently she's always been this way (I think she's about 3).
Are there any strategies to make her less scared? I've considered putting her in a cat carrier next to me on the couch while I watch TV or something just so she gets used to being around me and chilling next to me. Not sure if that would actually be traumatic though. I am a big guy and I think my presence terrifies her (even though when she lived solo with my GF she was similarly ghostlike).
