Hi,
My beloved hamster Bijou passed away last month and I’m having trouble figuring out a flower pot burial. The veterinarian said that as long as my hammy was kept in a cold place I could have more time to decide between burial and cremation. Bijou is in a nice box, within another box, in the garage freezer (which still makes me shudder to think about).. and although it’s still cold here in IL, I don’t want to keep Bijou waiting much longer to be laid to rest.. I learned about flower pot burials and have tried to do as much research as I can, but I’m still confused and want to do it the right way. When I move I want to be able to bring Bijou with me which is one of several reasons why I don’t want to bury her in the ground.
Idk if anyone has experience with flower pot burials or if I’m posting in the wrong subreddit, but I’m going to just list some questions here anyway, in case someone can help..
1). How big should a pot be, length and height wise? 2). Will the “process” still work if your pet is in a cardboard or wooden casket/box? 3). What material should the planter be made out of? Ceramic? Wood? 4). Can a wooden, raised/elevated planter box work? 5). How does one go about watering a plant with your furbaby’s remains underneath? Should furbaby/casket be buried at the bottom, with something placed on top and then seeds planted above that? 6). What plants or flowers would work best? Perennials of course but what kinds? 7). What should I use in terms of soil/fertilizer etc? 8). Are drainage holes necessary in the planter? And how would that work in the case of using an elevated garden bed made out of wood?
I’m really inexperienced with this sort of thing and I’m still totally distraught over the loss of my Bijou, she passed away unexpectedly, young, and tragically after recovering from a successful surgery and she was very sick.. I don’t want to mess anything up or see anything more upsetting, so I want this burial to be done properly and I just need some guidance...
Thanks so much for any help. <3
