Hey everyone, so I was wanting to adopt a companion while I am in my first year of medical school, but I am having a hard time deciding which pet to get.
I have been on r/medicalschool and r/premed to get opinions, and a lot of people say that it is manageable to have a dog or cat during medical school. It is harder in the later years with long hours, but at that point my SO will have moved in (only going to be by myself for a year).
The thing is, I am a dog person by heart, but have had no issues in the past with cats (grandparents had one, dad had one, etc.) but always grew up with a dog in the house.
If I was going to get a dog, it would be something like a beagle or a medium sized breed, nothing too large, but nothing small like a chihuahua.
I kinda need some pros and cons here on what’s best, and maybe some suggestions as of breeds. Obviously I’m looking for a pet/breed that is independent and wouldn’t mind me being gone for 6-8 hours a day.
I’m not looking at adopting right before I leave for med school, but it would be a couple months after I’ve gotten situated with my daily routine and habits. Not necessarily looking for a kitty/puppy either, something at least a few years old.
