Sad Boi with Separation Anxiety

Hi, everyone! I have a generally very happy, much-loved, cuddly shih-tzu yorkie named Tucker that is about 2.5 years old, that I’ve had for about a year and a half. I took him in from a friend of mine who had only had him a few months before realizing just how bad his anxiety is. My sweet baby angel is ridden with anxiety, as well as some resultant behavioral issues. While he is typically very good indoors, despite attempting to train him, he turns into a little monster if we have to leave him at the house alone, physically attempting to tear the doors down for what seems to be the entire time we are gone. Because of this, we have to keep him crated if we leave. Unfortunately, regardless of what I do in an effort to avoid this, Tucker urinates and defecates in his kennel and proceeds to roll and/or smear it everywhere. He has, on occasion, done the same thing free in the house while we are home if he’s upset with me about something. His vet knows about this. He is medicated, and we have tried different medications to no long-term avail. Our only idea remaining is to keep him in our fenced in and porched backyard while I am away. We have tried to do this, and while he does seem less stressed when we return, he continues to find a way to dig out from underneath our fence. I’ve found him on our front porch each time I return home but I am concerned about him getting lost, hurt, or stolen. I have a beautiful, wooden, insulated dog house on its way. I considered a wireless fence but reviews are disheartening as many dogs get shocked undeservingly if they’re within the borders that are set. Wired fences also have a lot of issues from what I can fell of the reviews. The guy at Petco recommended mint to be planted around my fence but I highly doubt that will work for my strong-willed pup. Any advice is genuinely appreciated.

Of note: We play classical music for him while he’s alone, he wears a Thundershirt and lavender oil, we’ve tried different soothing supplements, and he is currently on the highest dose of Elavil he can take. He has tried Prozac and Trazadone previously.
