I have small dog, about 2 yrs old, who weights about 13 lbs. I love taking him to the dog park every weekend because he loves running around and I am a college student so I live in a small apartment. He usually has a blast at the dog park, but these past couple times I have noticed that he has not been having as much fun as he use to.
The thing about my town is that there is only one dog park and there is no separate big/small dog areas. If there was just a small dog area, I would definitely be bring my fur baby there, but unfortunately there is not so I just have to make do. My small doggy plays well with big dogs because he loves being chased and is a tough little fellow so he can handle playing a little rough. My problem begins with one dog who is constantly picking on my dog. I may be overexaggerating, but this dog is always at the park the same time and will rile my dog up to the point where he has hairs sticking up on his back, teeth showing, and obvious signs of trying to get away. When my dog is getting chased or playing with other dogs, this dog will come and try to play with my dog, but will end up trampling him to the point where he keeps getting cuts on his body from being stepped on.
I have a total understanding that this dog probably just wants to play, but what bugs me is that its owner has no reaction when it is playing too rough with my dog. My dog is always smiling and just wanting to play with other dogs so it is very obvious when he is experiencing fear because of his demeanor. I notice this when all the dogs stop chasing one another, and as all the other dogs just sniff, this one dog continues to try to nip at my baby at the neck.
Sorry for rambling, but I just wanted to see if I would be totally in the wrong to confront the other dog owner or not. I love taking my dog to the dog park, but after seeing all the bloody cuts on my dog, I am unsure if it's an option anymore.
(sorry if I am displaying crazy dog mom vibes, I just hate seeing my lil fur baby in distress)
