Hello! I've posted on this sub before about my cats in regards to them being introduced to one another. I just adopted a new kitten, Alfie, February 10. So we're approaching 1 month that I've had him. He gets along really well with my resident cat, Clover, who is almost 2 years old. But now he doesn't seem to like me at all. He got sick and I had to start giving him medication which I think may have turned him off to letting me come near him. He doesn't trust me at all. He hides under my bed all day or behind the couch. He only comes out for food and sometimes he doesn't even come out for food. He isn't aggressive at all -- he's just extremely frightened, he just runs away whenever I try to get close to him. Sometimes he's receptive to me petting him or playing with him but that's rarer than his usual behavior. I just don't want him to fear me. I was starting to get frustrated with him going under the bed so I would close my bedroom door once he came out for food and now he's not even coming out of the room barely at all. I want to give him space to adjust but it's almost been a month and I'm afraid we won't bond. Clover was so affectionate and cuddly when she was a baby so this is throwing me off. Maybe it's partly because I got him at an older age? Alfie is currently almost 5 months old, so I got him at 4 months. I think I only got Clover at 3 months. Is there hope for us? What can I do to lure him out and spend time with me? Should I just accept that he just has a more aloof personality? Or does he need more time to settle in? To be fair, the first week I had him I also was dogsitting my mom's dog so he had to be introduced to a cat and a dog when I first got him AND this past weekend I had a lot of people over for a party. He let people pet him though! He was a little nervous but he was moving around a little.
Any advice?
