Used bad but available litter so I could feed my roommate's cats?

My roommate is staying at a friend's place for a week and I was supposed to change the litter today. This isn't an issue, it's very easy to change the litter, and I've done it multiple times in the past. The only issue is that I didn't check for the big bag of litter until after I had taken the trash bag of old litter out to the bin at the curb, and after about half hour of searching, decided to use a bag of litter that my roommate had in the garage to put in the box so that there was something there even though my roommate said it was bad for one of his cat's asthma. Was it OK for me to have used this bad litter just for tonight until I can go grab a new bag of litter tomorrow before work (or if he responds to me in the morning telling me where the bag is - there should be a bag, but he might not respond, long story), or should I have been more aggressive in trying to get ahold of him or the friend he is staying with so I could have located the fresh good litter tonight so that there is no chance of his cat having a bad reaction to the bad litter? For context, it is 11PM,and the both of us usually go to bed around 9PM,so it is very unusual for me to be changing the litter so late or for him to be up to answer my messages.
