We’ve been desperately trying to peacefully introduce my bfs dog to my cat since we’re moving in together, and for the last 2 weeks they’ve been in the same house but different rooms. Most of the time, if we put up a babygate, the cat will jump over it and try to be in the same room with the dog, but about 1/10 times when he sees her he will try to attack her, so they have to be completely supervised at all times, and for the most part the dog is always on a leash inside.
When he attacks or lunges for her, what do I do? I hate to say it, but my gut instinct is to slap the shit out of this dog and show him that he cannot act this way. We have been doing this slow introduction for weeks and we still feel like we’re at square one. The cat will try to come around, the dog will act ok, then attack, the cat will get scared and spend the next 2 days hiding, then she’ll come out again and the cycle repeats. I don’t know what to do, but I’m terrified that my boyfriends dog is going to kill my cat.
