A lot of research indicates that most dogs, regardless of size or breed will run away from an intruder rather than stand and fight. I don't believe that the same research covers the reality of a real life and death situation where the pet owner is in peril. I know my dogs do an exceptional job letting me know when something isn't quite right. I am absolutely in charge and they know it and I have no problem taking over defending our home. Again, the question here is whether or not any dog, or cat, or whatever in a situation where s*** really goes down how far do you believe they will go to protect you and everyone you care about?
