Cat doesn’t like other cats

My husband and I adopted a young (we don’t know her exact age!) tabby cat about 3 weeks ago, and we’re having a great time! She’s very manageable and has really adjusted well and quickly.

She is obviously very energetic, and I think the usual advice would be to get a second cat for her to play with. However, the shelter told us pretty explicitly that she doesn’t like other cats. They didn’t tell us her behavior or anything more specific.

My question is, do you think this is something that will always be true? Or is it possible that after a year of quiet home-life, she may be more receptive? I don’t know how you would test this sort of thing short of adopting a second cat and hoping for the best (which obviously seems like a questionable choice.)

Any thoughts would be appreciated!
