TLDR; How long will it take my super skittish cat to warm up if ever? whats your experience? what can I do to help?
Some background - I had been looking around for my first cat, and just rescued a young female (about a year old not exactly sure) a couple of days ago because she was going to be put on the street. She had a bit of a rough background but the family I got her from said she was very loving nonetheless (they only had her for about a month so she has moved around a lot recently).
First evening home - Basically hid the whole time under furniture. We obviously just ignored her and let her explore on her own pace. She is now a little more warmed up a couple days later but is still EXTREMELY skittish (especially with visitors) but even with me who she is most comfortable around she will jolt away if i move towards her or stand up quickly etc. I wanted to set some expectations because I've never done this before. She hates being held and wont really sleep anywhere thats not hiding somewhere like under a bed. She really is so sweet and will purr with me when I pet her and has played with me before, but I was wondering if y'all had any stories of similar situations of very skittish cats being very loving and trusting. Plus if there is anything I should be doing to help her adjust! Obviously I would love for her to want to curl up with me, but want to understand her thoughts a little better and know what to expect / how long it could take. She's here for the long haul no matter what because after about 3 days she feels like my own child, but want her to be as comfortable as possible!! Thank you!
