So I live with two other people, who already had two cats when I became their housemate. I got myself a cat (2y, spayed) with their approval shortly after I moved in. We introduced her slowly to the other two and it went almost as easily as you could ask for. But then we got a kitten (4m, neutered). During their initial face to face introduction my cat started grooming him, but that was the ONLY time she accepted him. Since then every time he tries to play with her she swats, hisses, growls, etc, and runs away from him. She loves to play with the other two, but if the kitten even so much as walks near her she growls or hisses. It's clear that they could coexist if they just didn't play, but he is obviously too young to understand that he shouldn't play with her.
I've heard of people "re-introducing" their cats who no longer get along, but will it help if she never liked him to start with? Otherwise, what else can we try? Does my cat not like him because he's a kitten, and once he's more mature they'll get along? And if so, what can we do to make their lives stress-free until she accepts him?
