So I have an Alaskan Malamute (5 years) who I adopted in my previous home that was fully toilet trained to go outside. I would take him out before I went to bed and again when I woke up. There was no problems with him in the house.
When I moved into my new bigger house a year ago he still had the idea to go outside the first few months until we adopted a puppy husky who obviously wasn't trained yet and would go toilet in the lounge room. This has made my malamute believe it's okay to go in the lounge room as well which in turn delayed the huskies training too.
It's been months and the only accomplishment I have is I've stopped them both from going during the day when I'm around because they know that's not okay. But they seem to go around 3am - 6am when I'm asleep.
Every single morning I wake up to some form of pee or poop in my lounge room from one or sometimes both of them. I've tried everything from taking them out at 1am and letting them out at 7am, taking them on big walks at night, even sleeping on the couch with a spray bottle in hand to squirt if I wake up and catch them but no they will still choose to go when I'm sleeping. They seem to think the lounge room is their "spot" as it's always in the same area, I've tried to block it off but it results in them going somewhere else in the house.
They also think of outside as their "play area" and they know if I see them go to the toilet inside I immediately send them out so there's been a few times during the day where I've gone to a different room, come back to poop on the floor and they look at me happy and excited and run to the door before I even ask.
Does anyone have any advice? It seems they're both encouraging each other and inside means toilet while outside means fun because the malamute had no problems before. I've thought about a doggy door but I can't have them outside unsupervised at night because they get up to trouble and will wake up the neighbours.
It's ruining my sleep and my floors trying to get this under control for months and I'm honestly done with my life revolving around dog poop so any tips, training advice etc will be appreciated.
