So for context, my house has a "mouse infestation". I call it this because there was only one mouse. I don't like killing mice or finding them dead in my home, so when my cats find one, I put on my gloves and sweep it up to take it outside. But this one mouse has kept coming back every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I know this because it retains the scars from my cat playing with it.
Only this morning did I realize why it kept coming back. Today my cat found it again, except this time it had BABIES with it. I'm not sure how many it had, but I only saw two. I was able to catch the mother and one of the babies in a cup and put it outside under a tree, in the woods near my home. The second baby I found afterwards and took it outside in the same way, and the mother was still there at the time, cleaning her first baby, so I put it right next to her.
That was about 10 minutes ago. I took out the trash and decided to check on the mice to see if they were still there while I was still out. I only saw the second baby mouse, the mother had left with the other baby, and I felt horrible. I'm not sure how old it is, but it's about one and a half inches long, has grey fur, no visible teeth, and its eyes are still slightly closed. I don't know what to do, maybe I just have too much empathy, but I don't want this baby to die outside because I threw its family outside and the mother chose to abandon it. I'm willing to take care of it, but I don't even know where to start, does anyone know what I should do?
edit: there's a typo in the title please don't mention it
