I have a 3 year old male ragdoll cat who's very playful, loves food, very affectionate and loves to be around people 24/7. My boyfriend moved his 16 year old female cat into my apartment a week and a half ago and we may not have introduced them properly, but things have been changing every few days. She's very small, timid, but pretty affectionate with humans.

The first day: We left the older cat in the bedroom and she seemed fairly calm despite the drastic move to my place. She even was purring. We eventually let my cat in at a distance to see how she'd react (they had met briefly before) and she immediately hissed when he walked in the room and growled any time she would go near him. He would cower away and leave the room and then try again an hour later. He didn't growl/hiss or anything ( though jury is out if he's able to...)

The first week: Things pretty much stayed the same, she would growl, hiss and swat any time he came near her. They did briefly touch noses and laid in the same bed together without tension so it seemed like progress. They both have been eating out of eachother's food bowls (they're in separate rooms) and he's used her litter box. They play chased each other one day but overall she didn't tolerate him going near her.

The past few days: He's now become territorial. He backs her into corners and seems to be stalking her? He has swatted at her a few times but not sure if his claws were out since we broke it up. She's now rightfully nervous to be around him. He doesn't seem to understand when she hisses at him that he should back off. I'm not sure if he would actually hurt her because he's usually so docile but it's definitely possible and not an outcome we want.
Right now we have them in separate rooms for a week and will try to reintroduce slowly after that but want to give them some space. Any tips?
