Hi there everyone! I am sort of in a predicament with moving and taking my dog with me. Let me give some background information first so this makes more sense. I have a 5 year old Yorkipoo (Daisy) who has lived with me since she was about 2 months old. I’ve moved a lot and of course have always brought her with me. It’s always just been her and me. While due to circumstances I had to move in with my dad and his girlfriend (I am 20 by the way) and brought my dog with me. We’ve been here for 2 years now and she loves my dads dog (a big Pitbull/lab mix) named Guero who usually doesn’t care for other dogs but loves Daisy! About 3 nights out of the week she sleeps with me and my boyfriend and the other 3 she sleeps with my dads dog. She really doesn’t like sleeping alone. Even though Guero is waayyy bigger than her, she’s the boss between the two. They’ve developed a beautiful relationship together so this is where I get torn. In a year me and my boyfriend will be married and he will be stationed in another state possibly in another country because he’s becoming a marine. When we move I would love nothing more than to take my Daisy with me! But... she loves Guero... To make it harder, my dad and his girlfriend have developed a loving relationship with Daisy as well. His girlfriend said jokingly that she asked Daisy if she wanted to move with me and Daisy said no. Haha, well my dad said it’s up to me that Daisy will be happy with whatever I decide. Now, my boyfriend and I haven’t decided if we will be living on base or living off base. Problem is, if we decide to live on base there is rules and Daisy likes to bark a lot and pretty much for everything. We can’t have her barking all the time if we live on base since there is a curfew. But that might not even be relevant if we decide to live off base. I know the best choice is to see where we decide to live first then to make that decision but it’s something I think about frequently and would like other opinions on. My boyfriend said we can always get another dog that isn’t so yappy all the time but Daisy will forever have my heart. No matter if she stays or goes she will be in good hands. But nobody spoils her like I do. I’ve been her mom since she was 2 months old so I don’t know if I would be hurting her more by leaving her or taking her with me. I know she loves my family and Guero a lot. However, me and her have a special relationship. I just want to make the best decision for her. If you have any tips or suggestions let me know please. I would definitely appreciate it.
