This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to write. Last night, we had to unexpectedly put down Ace. 😞 His glaucoma pressure required emergency surgery to remove both eyes which he could not survive at his advanced age and poor health. He crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 around 11PM and I held him in my arms until the end. Thank you to Dr. Russell and PVSEC South in Washington for their compassionate care during COVID-19.
Anyone who has met me for more than 5 minutes knows that I was first and foremost Ace’s mom. For 12.5 years, I had the privilege of being his mom, loving him, spoiling him, and treating him as if he was a person 😂 My friends had kids and I had Ace. Lol.
In his honor and in the spirit of Ace and our funny family, I wrote him this obituary. ————————————————— Ace, aka Ace L. Paw Attorney At Law, Dudley Duddles, Ace of Base, Ace of Spades, and my personal favorite, Ace-hole
Ace Fenk, born September 30, 2007, lived the life of a king until he passed peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, April 19th, 2020 at PVSEC South. Ace was born in a puppy mill in Ohio, was rescued and subsequently adopted by the Fenk family and spent all of his life in the upper middle class suburb of Pittsburgh, Mt. Lebanon.
Despite his tough early upbringing, Ace went on to be an accomplished sprinter at dog parks everywhere, earned a Doctorate in the art of farting, and won over hearts all over the globe with his bugged out eyes and severe underbite. His couch digging skills were second to none and that Joker smile made Ace quite popular with the ladies. Some say, he was the most interesting man in the world.
Ace loved to cuddle, snuggle, and ignore everything his mom said while only listening to his dad which I may point out is not fair because said dad only knew him for 3 years 🙄
Ace lit up the room wherever he went making fast friends at the King’s Grant condominium complex where he lived with his family. He spent his days at his job at The Dog Stop Doggie Daycare being the resident funny man, fellow dog harasser, and overall executive of fun operations until he retired a few years ago with a full puppy pension.
Ace made the most of his days drinking Brita water and high end dog food (which may I add has severely reduced his mom's retirement savings) 😂 He was known to love sunbathing, dragging his out of shape mother down the road for 4 miles, French fries, Wendy’s frosties, and barking at anyone who entered the building. He loved his friends, his neighbors, and especially his grandma Debbie whom he loved most.
In his later years, he resided at King’s Grant doggie retirement village where he enjoyed finishing out his golden years in style perched up on his fancy pillows listening to everything going on. He especially loved to constantly lick his paws and his families body parts and listen to his tv shows. He never ever missed an opportunity to get attention from his grandma Debbie for whom he loved the most - again, even though she didn’t raise him 🙄.
Ace is survived by his mom Heather, his dad Matthew, his grandmother Debbie, his great-Uncle Bill, his great grandmother Ellen (who once remarked that he was the ugliest dog she had ever seen...no actually, she made that comment quite often), and all of his inlaw-side family members to be, as well as friends and neighbors.
Ace will be cremated by Green Pet Funeral Hone and Crematory in Bellevue, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (formerly the Western PA Humane Society and the Animal Rescue League; now combined) - https://www.humaneanimalrescue.org/ways-to-give/make-a-donation/ ————————————————— This joker-smiled ball of love touched my life more than any human or animal I’ve ever come into contact with. It was the honor of my life to be his mom. I loved him more than life.
Due to COVID-19, we’ve got a lot of needy people out there on reduced or no incomes who have animals. Let’s make Ace’s life mean something. Please donate to honor Ace’s memory. I’d like to personally match the donations up to $1,000.
Thank you for reading. Humor is the only way any of us can get through any of this.
