Hi everybody,
As my title states, I'm a brand new cat foster. As in, the cat just came home a few hours ago. And I've never had a cat before.
I followed the shelter's instructions and instructions that I read online that said to designate a specific area of the house for her and keep her there alone to decompress. No problem, we have a rescue dog and did the same thing a few years ago when we first got her. The shelter said this cat would need some time to acclimate and warm up -- again, no problem at all, I've had rescue animals in the past and I totally get giving them all the time they need.
Well. It seems like she can't handle being alone. As in, she hasn't stopped crying and yowling and only seems to chill out when my husband and I are in the room with her. Which is awesome! She's super affectionate with us despite us just meeting literally five hours ago.
So I'm wondering.... do we still need to stick to the recommended two to three days of isolation? Or can (should?) we let her out to explore the house and meet the dog sooner? I don't want to mess this up or traumatize her or anything like that, but my experience so far has been that she's happier with us around.
Any and all advice is much appreciated :)
