Anyone ever had a cat with Pica?

We have a brand new area rug in our living room that had a mysterious spot on it. It was a clear spot that felt like super glue, and no amount of scrubbing could get it out. The carpet fibers are just... stuck together permanently. I tried Blue Coral, Resolve, all-purpose Mrs. Meyers... NOTHING could get this out. I finally gave up, but today I noticed another spot, same thing - carpet fibers are like super glue. Both spots are about 2 quarters in diameter. We can't figure out what it is. My husband thought the cat vomited on the rug, but there's no visible spot, and I can't clean it out. I'd think if it was vomit, I'd be able to remove it. Finally it dawned on me that our cat likes to lick paper excessively and I wondered if she's licked the carpet and matted the fibers together. Has anyone had a pet with pica? I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with the rug, but also if the cat has pica, I'm worried.
