Comfy temperature for Cockatiel?

I'm about to buy my first cockatiel and have been using this time to read up on what goes into owning one. The interwebs seem to suggest that they should be kept in temperatures between 65 and 80 degrees. I live in the desert, and my apartment can reach 87 degrees if the A/C unit (a wall-mounted swamp cooler) is not on. In anticipation of having the cockatiel, I bought a smart home gadget that allows me to control the A/C unit remotely with my phone, as well as set it to turn off and on automatically when certain temperatures are reached inside my apartment.

The only problem is that the A/C unit is quite a power hog and to have it turning off and on all day (the temperature can get up to 85 degrees even at night) would increase my bill a bit more than I'd like. I'm willing to shell out the extra cash to make sure my bird is happy and comfortable, but I just wanted to ask any of you out there with cockatiels how they do during the summer months and if you've noticed if they seem to mind if the temperature goes a bit above 80 degrees. Thanks.
