Debating Adopting a Cat

So I love cats. Hell, I love all animals, but I find that I would rather have a cat as they are slightly more independent than a dog. I've been considering adopting one from a local foster (since the shelters are all still closed to visits, all potential adoptions in my city are done through fosters right now). I want to get a fairly young cat, but not really a kitten. I was thinking in the 4-5 year old range.

I was out with my roommate yesterday and she expressed a desire to adopt a kitten pair for the house (me, her and another roommate). I'd be on board with this, even though I'd rather get a slightly older cat and not necessarily two. However, I plan on moving out within the next month. I want to adopt a cat for me and I would intend to bring whoever is adopted with me to my new apartment. I understand she wants them as well, but I don't really want to get a cat (or two) right now if I'd have to leave them in a month. I also don't want to get them and remove my roommates from the cat's life after a month either.

So, should I tell my roommate that she should consider waiting until I move out to get cats and I'd do the same? Or should we just adopt now.

Side note: I'd likely be doing most of the caring of the cat(s). I'm the only one home most of the time. My roommates are often out doing their own thing.
