Brought in a high energy foster dog to my home yesterday. I live on the 6th floor of an apartment building and have equal access to stairs and elevator. Dog is a coon hound, 2 years old, 55-60 pounds. I'm hoping to use the stairs for a bit of a cheat to get more work into a walk around the block.
I'm wondering if taking multiple flights of stairs regularly for larger dogs is harder on their joint system going up stairs, down stairs, or if it's equally taxing. She doesn't have her vet visit till Friday, so I'm definitely fine playing conservative, but I understand that joint displasia is something to look for, but it's most susceptible in the early years. This dog should be pretty close to full grown, if she's not already.
Thoughts? Thanks!
