Neutering timeline and worries!

Hi all! I just brought my little boy home. He’s about 14 weeks old right now, and I’m trying to schedule out his needed future vet appointments. I’ve heard conflicting timelines of when to get him neutered.. my friend who owned his mom and the kitties (once feral) was going to take them to get neutered at the local shelter, and they wanted to neuter him at twelve weeks. Due to COVID, the shelter didn’t end up opening before I brought him home so I called my vet. They stayed 6 months, so that’s what I’m scheduled for. Is this too late? I just worry about him developing bad habits at that long of a wait.

Also, I’m worried about possible big personality shifts after neutering. Is that a normal thing or is it more so they just calm down?
