I've had two pugs for around 3-4 years now and they've always got along great. Recently (within the last couple of months), the older pug (1) would frantically run over to the younger one (2) as I am petting 2 or even saying her name. If they're sitting beside each other, the same thing happens, and no matter where she is, 1 would get up quickly, find 2, then begin sniffing 2's face, her butt, and would try to lick her butt also. If we try removing her from 2, they'll start aggressively growling and fight for 5 seconds before calming down and 1 will begin sniffing/licking 2.
I first thought it was a jealousy issue, so I made sure to pet both 1 and 2 together at the same time, or I would try to pet 1 first than 2. This doesn't seem to work. I'm now assuming it's an issue of aggression (or a territorial problem?) but I've no idea how to solve it. They're only a year apart and have always been fine until recently.
Any help would be great!
