Separating Cats

My apartment has 2 cats, one is mine and 10 and the other is his and 2. We brought the little one in off the street and my cat kinda raised him. They sleep together and cuddle, but also tussle from time to time. My roommate is probably closer to my cat these days because he sleeps in the living room with him, but that doesn't mean I don't love him and spend time with him.

Anyway at the beginning of Covid I came over to my girlfriends because we wanted to quarantine together. We expected it to last a week, but I ended up staying because my roommate got Covid, and now I'm moving in. I hadn't grabbed my cat earlier because my girlfriends roommate has a kitten, but she's moving out this week. I wanna grab my cat, but I'm worried about separating him from his buddy. Also there's a small dog moving in here in October, and my cat has never lived with one before.

My roommate wants to keep my cat and I feel like that's probably the right thing to do but it really sucks. Any advice?
