Tricks to gain parakeets trust faster? (starting to lose hope)

I got a blue parakeet that I named Rem last August for my birthday. It's almost been a year now and I still haven't been able to tame her. I made tremendous progress right away when I first got her, she was used to my hand, let me pet her and would occasionally perch on my finger for a few seconds. Unfortunately, I had to return to college and keeping any pet at the apartment complex I stayed at was crazy expensive. I came back in summer and lost all progress. It's July and she's still not used to my hand, and just now (like literally 10 minutes ago) she escaped her cage (cage has a crappy gate that gets stuck halfway sometimes) and I had to scramble to get her back. She bit me hard and seemed really traumatized after I put her back in her cage, She's fine now but her body language makes it clear she wants nothing to do with me, I'm sure this whole experience set me back even more. I know patience is key when trying to tame birds but I'm getting really tired of making small mistakes like this or scaring her every time I turn off the lights and having to start back at 0. Are there any shortcuts to win her trust back?

TLDR: Got a parakeet for my birthday last August, left for college w/out her and came back in summer. She escaped her cage and bit me hard when I was trying to put her back now I'm sure her trust for me is back to 0 (been trying to tame her for a while). Any taming shortcuts?
