Sooo my best friend is moving in with me and my existing roommate. My roommate just got a new kitten, who is 12-weeks old now, and he has been acclimating more than well for the past 3 weeks in our four bedroom apartment. He explores everything! But the thing is, my best friend that is moving in, is bringing her two adult cats to move in with us. This has already been approved by everyone but we are big novices when it comes to “Cat Introductions” especially since all cats are relocating to a new place.
We’ve done tons of research on how to introduce a kitten to cats or introduce two cats to each other but I haven’t seen any first hand accounts or examples or two adult cats moving into a new place where a kitten already lives. It’s always new kitten meets adult cats that are already comfortable in their home but what about the opposite? And to make matters complicated it’s not just one adult cat being moved into a kitten-dominated apartment, it’s two!
We have set aside rooms that each cat will reside in so they don’t meet eye to eye at first. We have calming pheromones to help ease the tension. We have items for the each cat to smell and feel out each other’s scent. We got a gate to separate them for a first sight meeting. We have separate cat trees for vertical space so they can get up and away from each other when they feel like it. We are going to schedule special eating times so they can possibly eat near each other while separated.
I’m worried about the two adult cats stress level about moving into a new place with a new kittens scent being there. The new kitten is very energetic and curious so I’m worried he’s not going to able to help wanting to see or confront the adult cats. The adult cats will more than likely have a “challenge line” about exploring the apartment but what should we do if they all want to explore and all be in the living room? I can already tell that the kitten will be Very apprehensive about being shut away or not around the action.
I’m just wondering (I know every cat is different but) has anyone ever gone through this before? Is there any special advice or something that I have thought of? Any help is much appreciated!
