After months of trying to adopt cat from local shelter/rescue, I finally gave up.

My wife and I always wanted a cat as pet. This year we finally decided to actually adopt a cat from local shelter/rescue. We started by researching and learning about cat behaviors and how to care for cats. Some days we would spend hours and hours watching YouTube videos on various subject on cats. After we felt we’ve “graduated”, we started looking up cats on petfinder and sending out applications. Over four months of time, we sent out well over 30 applications. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given a chance on any of them. In fact, out of the 30+ applications and emails, I only got one phone call (telling me that they don’t currently accept out of state applications) and one email reply (saying that they don’t accept anyone without past cat experience). By now, each new application that I send out feel like dropping another needle in the ocean. Seeing some of the cats that I applied over 2 months ago are still up for adoption, really makes me think about what these shelters and rescues are doing? Needless to say, the whole adoption process has been really frustrating. I never imagined adopting a cat could be this difficult. It’s taken a toll on me emotionally and today was the last straw for me. I deleted the petfinder app and decided to buy a cat from cat breeders instead.
