So today has been a roller coaster. TLDR the animal shelter gave me the wrong kitten.
I visited a shelter yesterday and bonded with a kitten. I couldn’t help but want to take her home. However I couldn’t get her until today which was fine because I have zero supplies. Well today I go to pick her up and I’m so excited to take her home. They walked the carrier to the car and hand me the paperwork. I check the box and a tiny little face tries to pop out but I quickly close the box and go home.
I place my new kitten in the bathroom full of toys, scratchers, and a litter box but she really just wants to play with me. I notice she’s bigger than i remember but I shrug it off. She’s also way more personable than she was at the shelter. Again I shrug it off because she is so damn sweet. Anyway, I get back to working and the shelter calls to tell me they gave me the WRONG CAT. Apparently the one I have is the original’s sister!
I now have the choice to bring this one back or keep her. At first I was so conflicted and didn’t know what to do. However I played with this kitten and she’s so energetic yet gentle. She’s curious and fearless for a cat in a brand new environment. She ate the food I gave her like she was ravenous and used the litter box with no prompting. She doesn’t even try to hide when I let her out the bathroom. She just wants cuddles.
So all seems well with the world and I’m thinking of keeping her but I get an email from the shelter with more details about the cat. Turns out that it’s actually a boy not a girl. This cat has been so sweet to me but idk what to do because I really feel lied to by the shelter. It’s not the kitten’s fault but this seems really sketchy.
Has this ever happened to anyone? What should I do?
