Hi. Don't mean to darken the mood on the sub but my cat (13y/o male) has been acting strangely for the last day or so. He gets hairballs quite often because he sheds like crazy and grooms himself 24/7, but he usually has an absolutely ravenous appetite. He'd basically eat all day if I let him.
Yesterday after giving him food, I noticed he was retching and gagging like a hairball was coming, but nothing ever came. He's refused almost all food since but will eat a treat or two. A few minutes after eating it, though, he starts with the dry heaving again, and he paws at his face like he's trying to pull something out of his mouth. Given his age I'm worried this could be very serious, but could he really just have to hack up the mother of all hairballs?
